After I photographed my first two (covid) weddings, I decided to officially pursue photography. From the recent wedding I did, I realized that posing couples is a huge part of the role of a photographer and I needed some serious practice in that area. I did what any brand new photographer would do and I grabbed my little brother and his sweetie pie of a girlfriend, met them at a park close to their college and tried out a few different prompts. It wasn't an ideal time of day to shoot (it was like 1pm) and I was just starting to learn manual camera settings.
Some of these photos make me cringe since I know how badly set my camera settings were. At the same time, some of these photos are my absolutely favorite because of the two wonderful people in them. This was their first time having their photos taken like this. They were so sweet and so patient with me. It was here I saw the love these two have for each other in a whole new way. Here was my rowdy, tough, wild, competitive little brother showing more gentleness, kindness, tenderness and selflessness than I ever knew was in him. Plus, they show how far I've come with learning this new skill in just a few months. The love these two have for each other is close-knit, affectionate, constant, and strengthened in its depth. (I mean, do you see the way they look at each other?) I’m thankful I was able to see that through the lens of my camera. These are not the best photos I have ever taken but this session will always hold a special place in my heart because of the way I've seen a special type of love in them.
